What is the difference between physical map and symbolic map?

The physical map is the load module and the symbolic map is the data structure.

Physical Map: It is the load module that contains information on the physical location of fields and data on the screen. It also indicates the attributes of each field such as protection, intensity and length. And the symbolic map is the data structure.


Symbolic Map
: Copy library which is copied into the working storage of a program.
It is a copy library member, which is to be included in the application program for defining the screen fields. It is to ensure device and format independence to application programs.

A symbolic map is a source language data structure that is used to resolve source program references to fields in the map. It is also known as a logical map.
