How Garbage Collector (GC) Works?

The garbage collector runs in low-priority thread. It checks for dynamically allocated free space in the memory and it checks that if data is no more referenced then it reclaims it and returns the occupied space to the OS so that other program can use it if needed. Thus it helps programmer keep track of dangling data.
