Major Differences are listed below:

1) 8.1 is service oriented architecture based.
2) Grid concept is additional feature.
3) Random files name can be generated in target.
4) INFACMD & INFASETUP NEW command are added in command line program.
5) SQL Trans, Java trans, HTTP trans, Unstructured trans are added.
6) Concurrent Cache creation and faster index building are additional features in lookup transformation.
7) Cache are automatic allocated we do not need to allocated at transformation level.
8) Push down optimization feature in Informatica 8.1.1
9) Target designer exist in replace of warehouse designer in designer tool.
10)We can use dynamic cache for flat file lookup in inf.8.1.
11)We can define our own user defined functions.
12)In 7.1 Informatica server & repository server admin consol in different machine.But in 8.1 it should be in one machine.
13)We can connect power center for SAP Net Weaver BW  option.
14)In informatica 8.1, there is option to add Header And Footer in target  file in the session property.
