Shakeout Testing

To identify an initial test which verifies that a load has been successful and all software is accessible and functioning as expected.
To test the Networking functionality, Data base connectivity and the integration of modules.
This test is basically carried out to check the networking facility, database connectivity and the integration of modules. (It is done by the Configuration Team)

Smoke Testing

It is done to check the stability of the build received for software testing. It is a wide approach of testing where all areas of software application has been tested without getting into too deep. (Horizontal Testing)

Sanity Testing

It is done at time of Regression to check whether the build is stable enough to move further to Prod or not.
It is Narrow Regression Vertical Testing with one or two small set of areas of functionalities. (Cursory Testing)
