PIG INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Start by downloading the most recent stable release of Pig from one of the Apache download mirrors. Download the latest version here

http://apache.t echartifact.com/mirror/pig/pig-0.10.0/pig-0.10.0.tar.gz

1. Installation

1.1 Prerequisites:

● Sun JDK 1.6.x has to be installed.

● Hadoop -0.20.x has to be setup

and all the hadoop daemon processes must be up and running.

1.2 Installation procedure:

1 Unpack the tar ball by using following command:

$ tar -xzvf pig-0.10.0.tar.gz

1 The above command creates a directory with name “pig-0.10.0”.

2 Before getting the access to pig command line interface,

make sure the 2 environment variables are set appropriately

i.e HADOOPHOME and JAVAHOME.

3 Move inside the newly created pig directory by firing the command

$ cd pig-0.10.0

.

1 $export PIGHOME=$PWD or you can set the PIGHOME environment variable in the ~/.bashrc file and fire the command $source ~/.bashrc for immediate effect of the path variable.

2 To use PIG’s command line shell call GRUNT shell , fire the command $ bin/pig

.

1 The above command must display a shell prompt as shown below:

grunt>

This indicates that pig-0.10.0 is successfully installed on your machine.
